The 25-year-old started to make her way back to music around the same time but ended up shelving an entire album when executive changes at her record label put the release on hold.īut there is not a hint of frustration or bitterness in the bubbly singer’s voice as she explains why there is a gulf of six years between her previous album Battlefield and her third solo record Right Here, Right Now, which dropped on Friday. Sparks was never far from the spotlight, or a red carpet, with her beau of three years Jason Derulo until the pair split acrimoniously last year. She wasn’t idle, pursuing acting roles including the Broadway production In the Heights and making her film debut in Sparkle, which would be Whitney Houston’s final movie.
But, I’m not sure this has the consistency to become much of a hit.And then Sparks disappeared from the airwaves. She is definitely playing it safe with this effort, but sometimes safe is good. As with always the case with Jordin, she serves up a good listen that you can sing along to. Now this effort isn’t anything ground breaking and it’s certainly no Tattoo. Yes, the marching band beat is similar & yes Beyonce is much, much better at pulling off these anthems, but what I Am Woman has that Girls doesn’t is an infectious hook and a catchy chorus.
But, the surprising factor is that Sparks has a much stronger comeback than her. One other artist you can think of that has also done this, this year? Of course we are talking are talking about Beyonce’s Run The World(Girls). The track is called I Am Woman and is a total female empowerment anthem. Even though her sophomore album Battlefield didn’t do so well in the charts(even though it was stellar effort), she certainly isn’t hesitant with her new material. Jordin Sparks, fresh out of the recording studio with producer Ryan Tedder is back with a new single.
